Grappa wine bar

The Client: Grappa Wine Bar is an imaginary wine bar modeled after my favorite local wine bar.

Grappa Wine Bar is a neighborhood bar with a winery feel. They host weekly community events, as well as rent out the venue for private events. Their menu includes charcuterie boards, appetizers, grilled paninis, salads, and pastas. They serve local wines as well as imported wines, with a vast price range. Their target audience is couples, groups of friends, and professionals looking for a great happy hour spot.

The Challenge: I challenged myself with writing the copy for the Homepage, About Us, and Venue Rental Sales Pages. I needed to keep the tone consistent - sophisticated, but with a friendly vibe. This bar is all about strong relationships with the community and I wanted to portray that through their website.

For the sales page, I wanted to list out enough options to give ideas of what a private even could entail, but also encourage them to contact the bar for more information to get communication started.

The Solution: I created a tone guide and target audience persona to guide my writing. This is an essential first step for me. After understanding the tone and audience, I started with the homepage. I wanted this page to be simple and inviting. I want to encourage potential customers to click through the other pages on the website. I kept the copy short and punchy.

The about me page was all about making a connection with their audience. The story of the way Grappa Wine Bar started was highlighted because it is the heart of the mission. They want to remain all about their customers making connections and building relationships over great glasses of wine and delicious food. To accomplish this, I did not need to write a long story with a lot of details, but getting right to the point allowed me to emphasize their goals and build a connection with their potential customers.

The Venue Rental sales page was my favorite part of this project. I put myself in the shoes of a bride looking for a venue to plan a wedding and also a grandmother looking to host a family party for her 50th anniversary. How could this page appeal to both potential customers. I decided to focus on the benefit of hosting a party with out all the stress of being a host/hostess. To do this, I needed to give customers options to pick and choose what they wanted to include in their package. I listed some of the options, but did not list out all details. Instead I ended with a call to action by suggesting they email the venue for more information and to create their perfect package.
